Fillings

Here at Sweet Tooth Dental, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of health care. This means that all of our fillings are composed of high strength BPA-free resin composite produced by Heraeus Kulzer. We DO NOT provide mercury amalgam fillings, but however we are more than happy to remove them upon a patient’s request. A tooth can be damaged for many reasons. Decay resulting from a diet high in sugar or acidity is the most common reason a tooth will exhibit the decay process. Grinding habits as well as hard tooth brushing can also lead to damage of the teeth which would require a filling to be placed. When this happens, the affected portion of the tooth is removed and a dental filling is placed all while the tooth is numb.

All of our fillings are custom shade matched to your teeth, so it is almost impossible to detect that a restoration has been placed in the tooth. Just as with any other procedure on the body, healing time is required. Unlike surgery on a hand or a foot, however, a tooth can not be placed in a cast and have it’s use be avoided. Simple precautions can be followed however to ensure that any sensitivity after a filling is placed can be avoided as much as possible and have the tooth return to normal as quickly as possible. These include avoiding food or drink that is extremely hot or cold as well as chewing extremely hard foods in the area of the filling such as peanuts, hard candy, etc. This will make sure that any tooth that has been worked on will not be aggravated and will lead to a quicker road to normalcy. Lastly, just like your natural teeth, teeth with fillings will need to be cared for and attended to in the same way to avoid having to be replaced. This includes daily brushing and flossing as well as maintaining a moderate diet.
