We are more than happy to answer any questions or concerns that any patient may have regarding their oral health and schedule an appointment as soon as possible in order get you back to health. Some dental emergencies include having a tooth chipped due to trauma, having a tooth loosen or be displaced, sharp and/or lingering pain on one or more teeth, or a cracked or lost filling or crown. If a tooth is avulsed (or knocked out), there are several key things that need to be accomplished in order to have the best chance to save it. First, rinse the tooth off with warm water, being careful not to touch the root of the tooth. If possible, place the tooth back into its socket and head to the office as soon as possible.

If you can not place the tooth back into it’s socket, then keep the tooth stored in a container with milk, saliva or water as a last resort. It is important to keep the tooth hydrated in order to increase the odds of re-implantation. The key here is to come to the office to have it re-implanted as soon as possible. If a crown becomes loose, simply keep it in a safe place and be sure that you are not eating or drinking anything that may cause the tooth to become sensitive. Typically, a crown will become loose or fall out because there is decay underneath the crown. In the rare chance there is no decay found, the crown is simply glued back onto the tooth, assuming that the crown fits normally. With any emergency, the keys to ensuring a good outcome are communication and to schedule an appointment to be seen and treated as soon as possible.
