Vapers Beware Toxic Arsenic Levels – E-Cig News

Toxic arsenic levels

It was reported in USA today leading researchers found extremely toxic arsenic levels and other harmful metals in e-cig vapes, according to a study at Johns Hopkins. The study shows that samples also contained elevated levels of nickel, lead, chromium, as well as manganese. The author of the article stated that “It is important for all regulatory bodies, especially the FDA,  as well as e-cigarette companies to know themselves that the heating coils as currently constructed, appear to be leaking these toxic metals, which then get inhaled through the aerosols in the vapers.

Unsafe refilling dispensers

Fox News reported that research into testing liquids in the refilling dispensers from a large number of Baltimore, Maryland area vape users, found unsafe levels of the same metals as listed above. The results showed that aerosol metal concentrations were highest in e-cigs whose coils were more frequently changed. The report listed that the FDA has the authority to regulate e-cigarettes, but has not issued any rulings on the matter as of yet.

Will the FDA step in?

Finally, US News & World Report (report in February) outlined the facet that researchers are hopeful the studies showing the harmful levels of toxic material generated from e-cigs will help the FDA create rules to govern the devices.
